Throughout the history of Call of Duty there have been a boat load of brilliant maps and this article will look at the 10 we feel are the best. A great map can make a game that much better and a bad map can lessen the reputation of an otherwise great game. One of the features that people look forward to in each new game are the new multiplayer maps. The first person shooter is extremely fun, addictive and features a new installment every year. Check back next week for more details.Call of Duty is one of the most popular and successful video game franchises in history. Five more maps are also slated to be released in July, upping the grand total to 22 multiplayer maps. We'll take some time next week to make the download, which features a Kalach, Russia map and a Beaumont-Hague, France map, and let you know if these maps are worth the dough. At E3, we also had a short time with the Skirmish Map Pack that costs 400 Microsoft Points, or five dollars. Then a buddy and I would sneak off down the other street and work our way through the buildings until we came up behind the enemy for a flanking kill. There are two main streets on the map so often we found ourselves in tense standoffs behind cover. Team Deathmatch was the preferred mode on this map because our squad was able to slowly work our way up the streets toward enemy positions. Heck, one kid saw me sniping, ran behind me and bashed me in the head for a laugh-out-loud spectator moment before respawning. You can still get to second-floor windows and snipe away, but most of these openings are exposed, further encouraging the use of up-close-and-personal killing. But Wallendar encourages shotgun and machine gun combat because you can easily avoid sniper fire by dodging in and out of buildings. The sniper rifle is still a great weapon as you can take out enemies from all the way down long, war-torn streets. Get+down!+Shut+up! The Wallendar map is played in a bombed-out German village. Then, at the last second, bang - they're dead. We had great fun keeping our crosshairs trained on the enemy base as opponents tried valiantly to get our flag back to their base. We played an awesome round of Capture the Flag that was fast-paced with a lot of quick scores, thanks to the open map and that it only takes about 20 seconds to take the enemy flag back to your home base - if sniper fire hasn't cut you down, that is.
The bunkers are a great touch because you can proceed with a friend through a series of tunnels across almost the entire map and there's also access to an elevated bunker. Because it is so open, Vossenack allows for a bit of spawn camping and every now and again a sniper's bullet will rip through your throat seconds after you have respawned. Vossenack is very open, with hilly terrain and a series of bunkers acting as cover. Both maps are a bit small in size but are well-designed and feature a lot of opportunity for intense combat situations. Vossenack+is+a+pretty+forest,+with+bullets. Check out the video link at the bottom of the page to see for yourself. Being the COD2 fans that we are, and given that the game is no longer broken online thanks to a few patches and updates, we downloaded these two maps and gave them a spin.
The bonus map pack is free and features the Vossenack, Germany and Wallendar, Germany maps. Infinity Ward released a pair of new map packs the week of E3. PDZ has new bots, PGR 3 has new rides, The Outfit has new maps and Oblivion has freakin' horse armor.
Downloadable content is coming into full swing on the Xbox 360.
